 coaches

Coaches are the heart of our program! They passionately and diligently endeavor to make gymnastics a great, safe experience for each gymnast. They look forward to helping gymnasts achieve their dreams and potential! Thank you for trusting our coaches with your athlete! They are in great hands!

Mickey everson, head coach

Coach Everson is excited to be coaching again! She started training as a gymnast when she was just three years old. She was honored to be one of the first two 7th graders allowed to participate in a varsity sport at Aberdeen Central High School (CHS), where she competed through the age of 18 years of age. She proceeded to earn a B.S. Ed. in  Elementary Education and Coaching, specializing in gymnastics and track, at Northern State University. Coaching has been a passion of Coach Everson since she began coaching gymnastics at the YMCA right out of high school. Her love of coaching led her to continue as the YMCA program turned into AGA, and she continued coaching for AGA until 2016. She has also been a South Dakota High School Gymnastics Official from the years 1995-1997, but she realized how much she loved coaching and opted to become the Aberdeen CHS Varsity Assistant Coach from 1996-2016. She even coached the then newly-formed CHS Competitive Dance Team for four years. Coach Everson diversely spends her spare time serving as the Corporate Financial Administrator for DSI, a YMCA fitness instructor, and an assistant sports event coordinator at CHS.

Alicia Malewicki, Assistant Coach

Coach Malewicki, a lifelong gymnast, grew up in Minnesota and

competed in club gymnastics for years, until switching over to high school competition her freshman year of high school. Gymnastics has given her so many experiences and important life skills, and she loves giving back to the sport all the wonderful things it has shared with her. College led her to South Dakota State University, and then she finally called Aberdeen home, where she receives highest commendations as a health and physical education teacher. She has coached the Aberdeen Central High School’s Golden Eagles for the past four years. For three years of those years she trained the junior varsity and varsity gymnasts before launching into the middle school level. Coach Malewicki looks forward to coaching your child and being involved with the future of the AGA program.

sherise rivera, Assistant Coach

Sherise Rivera doesn’t remember she did not want to be a gymnast. Because her small, rural town did not have gymnastics, her mom tried to distract her with dance. When a gymnastics club opened in Pierre, SD, although it was a drive, it was close enough that Sherise could complete her dream of being a gymnast. Sherise competed in club gymnastics for five years. Her coaching capabilities were noticed early by her club coach, and she helped instruct younger gymnasts in the club’s summer camps.  Sherise went to on to help coach at a gymnastics gym in Grand Forks, ND and loved it.  Having the opportunity to coach again has been a wonderful gift to Sherise, and she looks forward to sharing her passion and enthusiasm for the sport with your gymnast.
